Dan Magoon is a committed and driven community leader who has successfully led the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes nonprofit for 12 years. The organization is dedicated to honoring returning Veterans and those who have served since September 11, 2001. Under Magoon's leadership, Massachusetts Fallen Heroes has become a multimillion-dollar nonprofit.
Magoon's proudest accomplishment as executive director occurred in May 2016 when the organization unveiled a 50-foot public tribute in South Boston's Seaport Common. The Massachusetts, Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial is the first in the nation. It is a powerful and refined beacon of light, a five-sided diaphanous column signifying the branches of the Service, looming above the trees in the park and reaching for the sky, acknowledging the sacrifice these service members have made. The unveiling was in conjunction with Massachusetts Fallen Heroes' first annual Patriot Week, a 10-day series of events honoring Veterans and Gold Star Families.
Today, Massachusetts Fallen Heroes is focused on supporting local Gold Star Families and Veterans through outreach programs, special events, and advocacy services. Our three main goals are to Honor the memories of our fallen, Support our Gold Star Family members, and Empower our Veterans. In January 2023, MFH launched the new home for our InnoVets program at the new Emond Center for Engagement (ECE) located at 12 Channel Street, South Boston's Old Army base. The ECE features an open-concept co-working space with dedicated space for individuals, meeting rooms, and an assembly area for events.
The InnoVets program is Boston's first Gold Star Family- and Veteran-focused business accelerator, designed to connect, inspire, and support military Veterans and Gold Star Families as they establish and grow businesses in Boston's Seaport. InnoVets, in collaboration with corporations, investors, educational institutions, and associations, provides dedicated resources and opportunities to Gold Star and Veteran entrepreneurs in Massachusetts.
Magoon began his service with the United States Army as a Paratrooper in 2003 and completed combat deployments between Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2007, Magoon concluded his service with the rank of Sergeant. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Army, Magoon joined the Boston Fire Department and served the City of Boston for 11 Years. He resides in Dorchester, Massachusetts, with his wife Megan and two sons, Conrad and Winston.
